As an independent, faith-based community, Bishop Gadsden has a culture of philanthropy and a commitment to social responsibility.

Throughout our 174-year history, we have evolved from the Home for Widows and Orphans, to the Episcopal Church Home for Women, to the Episcopal Church Home, to finally Bishop Gadsden, in honor of the Rt. Rev. Christopher Gadsden (Episcopal Bishop of South Carolina from 1840-1852.) Our name has changed, but our mission to support our entire community remains.

There are many ways to contribute to Bishop Gadsden, such as gifts in honor or memory of a loved one, general donations, and planned giving. Donations of cash, check and credit card are welcome, as well as gifts of securities, appreciated assets, and life insurance. Bishop Gadsden is an independent 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation in the State of South Carolina. All gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Bishop Gadsden strongly believes in supporting the greater Charleston Community and has since our founding in 1850. Through our Charitable Fund Grant process, Bishop Gadsden residents and team members annually nominate area nonprofits to be considered for grants anywhere between $2,500 to upwards of $75,000. Since 2000, nearly $13 million has been distributed to charitable causes.

The heart and soul of our philanthropic ministry, this fund provides financial assistance to residents who face difficulties or outlive their resources, alongside outreach efforts to the greater community.

EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION FUND

A specific endowment to benefit an integral part of the Bishop Gadsden community—our employees. This fund allows residents and their families the opportunity to express appreciation for the exceptional care provided by our team.

THE C. WILLIAM TRAWICK ENDOWMENT

Through this endowment, donors have the opportunity to provide general support for the community.

GUERRY ENDOWMENT

A specific endowment to benefit the Charitable Fund.
