BGU: Wine Families

Many wine grapes share surprising family connections! Join us for an exciting four-week series and tasting that will take you on a journey through different grape variety families in a range of delightful styles. These exceptional wines from around the globe promise to help you discover your next favorite! The series takes place from Tuesday, April 1, to April 22, in Blackmer Hall at 3:00 PM. The cost for this series is $160.00, which includes wine sampling and small bites. Space is limited. April 8 **The Pinot Family** Few realize that this historic grape from Burgundy has evolved into a remarkable assortment of varieties, including white grapes! Pinot Noir is celebrated worldwide, alongside its siblings—Gamay, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc—that produce exquisite, high-quality wines. Join us for a captivating exploration of the diverse expressions within this enchanting grape family.   April 15 **The Syrah Family** When enjoyed on its own, Syrah presents a bold and savory red wine experience. However, the other grapes in this family create an impressive spectrum of styles, ranging from light and refreshing to rich and sweet. In this class, we will indulge in traditional Syrah from the Rhône Valley, as well as its vibrant sibling Grenache, commonly found in Spain. We will also explore stunning examples of white grapes from this family, including Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier.   April 22 **The Greek Family** Greek wines boast some of the most ancient grape varieties in the world, yet they often present a challenge to discern. In this class, we will delve into popular Greek grape varieties, uncovering their unique characteristics and how they fit together. We will demystify Greek wine labels, empowering you with the confidence to explore these captivating wines independently. Expect surprises along the way as we feature treasured varieties such as Mavrodaphne, Assyrtiko, and Vidiano.   Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your wine knowledge and expand your palate!
