Gala For Giving 2015

Written by . Posted in Uncategorized

On the eve of Veteran’s Day,  the Generous Spirit Committee here at Bishop Gadsden hosted a grand event called “Gala For Giving”. This gala was held in honor of all veterans but more specifically the veterans who are residents here at Bishop Gadsden. Additionally, the event was held to celebrate those who generously donated to the fundraising for Fisher House Charleston; a local charitable organization providing refuge for families with loved ones undergoing medical care from the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. Together, we raised over $100,000 for this wonderful cause!

The evening began with veterans, donors, residents, and staff gathered in Palm Court, as the sun was setting and the cool Charleston breeze began blowing. The veterans sat at the front of the crowd and smiled for a group photo.

Soon after, a precession consisting of a bagpiper and a flag bearer traveled through the courtyard to the seated veterans. The entire courtyard lit up as we recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Afterwards a heartfelt thank you speech was delivered to the veterans, the night had only begun!

Inside of Bishop Gadsden awaited an array of savory and enticing food and a memorabilia room. The memorabilia room, located in Blackmer Hall, featured items from the resident veterans time in the respective services. Items on display ranged from pins and photographs, to medals and jackets! Learning about the resident veterans past experiences, triumphs, and sorrows was truly enlightening.

Now, back to this delicious food that was mentioned earlier. To keep up with the theme of the evening, the living room had three different culinary stations. The first stations captured the appetizing flavors of Southeast Asia with thai red curry chicken, noodles, Banh Mi, and spring rolls. The second station featured delectable European flavors including Normandy heroes, potato and leek shooters, stuffed eggplant, and banger mashed potatoes. Lastly, the Korean station had exquisite cuisine including Kimchi, fried rice, and more!

The Gala for Giving 2015 was a huge success. We salute and honor our veterans and thank them for their service. We would also like to extend a big thank you to all of our generous donors and the Generous Spirit Committee for all of their hard work and dedication!
