Bishop Gadsden Coronavirus (COVID-19) Community Communication – Increasing Precautions

As of July 28, 2021


On July 27th, the CDC updated its guidance for those who are fully vaccinated living in areas of “substantial” or “high” transmission rates of COVID-19. Charleston currently falls in the “substantial” category, with new COVID cases increasing 58% over the past 7 days. Bishop Gadsden has learned of COVID-19 cases in close-proximity of our Community, as well as transmission within the greater Charleston community among fully-vaccinated individuals. For these reasons, Bishop Gadsden increasing COVID-19 precautions.

Community members, team members and visitors are asked to resume wearing a mask indoors throughout Bishop Gadsden, except when actively eating and drinking.

  • Visitors
    • All visitor screening returns to the security station for COVID symptoms and temperature checks.
    • It is recommended that guests avoid the hours of 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM, and 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM if possible to prevent delays due to the volume of team members entering at those times for the beginning of their shifts.
    • Apartment and Cottage Visitors 
      • Vaccinated Visitors:
        • Please continue to have your vaccinated visitors register with the Trawick Commons.
        • Vaccinated visitors must be masked and can move through the Trawick Commons, including culinary areas.
  • Unvaccinated Visitors:
    • Should ONLY be going to and from a resident’s home, and should not be in the Trawick Commons.
    • Unvaccinated visitors should be wearing a mask at all times, and are encouraged to wear a mask when within the resident’s home.
  • Health Care Visitors
    • All visitors to Myers Hall, Read Cloister, and Arcadia Close please continue to check in at the Concierge desk after screening at the security station.
    • All guests, regardless of vaccination status, are highly encouraged to keep a mask on at all times when within the resident’s home.
  • Team Members Entering/Departing Campus
    • Continue with same protocols of screening at the security station.
    • All team members (now including non-health care team members) will be masked indoors in all areas, except when eating and drinking, or outside.
      • Health Care Areas:  No changes in guidelines, existing protocols remain in place.

It is important to remember that we continue to reap the benefits of protection through vaccination. While breakthrough infections are occurring among the vaccinated, they are characteristically less severe with significantly reduced risk of hospitalization and/or death. In keeping with our mission of care, heightened precautions especially help protect the vulnerable among us, including those with conditions that compromise their immune systems.
