Bishop Gadsden's 450 residents are the heart of our vibrant community. They enjoy each other, and they enjoy Bishop Gadsden's fun, active lifestyle coupled with a high level of comfort, security and service. You will find our residents are accomplished members of what Tom Brokaw rightly described as "the greatest generation." Coming from all walks of life and from more than 20 states, our residents are ready to welcome you.
For us, "community" is the trust, caring and teamwork which exists among Bishop Gadsden's residents, staff and trustees. We value the dignity, diversity, individuality and spirituality of all people.
Bishop Gadsden, a 157-year old non-profit organization, is a proven
leader in retirement living. Nestled between two spring-fed ponds on 68 acres
are 56 beautiful cottages, 159 low-rise spacious apartment residences and a 48,000-square-foot neoclassical commons building, which inscribes an elegant courtyard.
Inside The Commons you will find the community's heartbeat. There's always something to see or do; like Sunday brunch with family, music concerts, book club meetings, drinks with friends in the pub, working out in the gym or taking a dip in the pool. People gather regularly in the library, chapel and the performing arts and lecture hall for stimulating programs and fellowship.
Charleston is one of the most popular cities in the country for visitors, offering a broad range of cultural activities and performing arts institutions. Educational opportunities abound with a progressive, academic community, while numerous outdoor activities are available year-round. With all these perks plus several military bases and an international airport, it is no wonder Charleston attracts people seeking a inspiring, stimulating place to live.
